I forgot my password! Help!

Don’t worry. Just click on the ‘Forgot Password?’ link, which is at the top of the home page in the Log In section, enter your email address and you will receive an email with a link to reset your password.

Is the site secure?

Yes! APPS.gov NOW has passed the certification and accreditation process for federal web applications, including extensive industry standard security testing to ensure that it complies with all National Institute of Standards and Technology and GSA security guidelines.

How do we start our citizen engagement project?

First, decide what kind of public interaction your agency is looking for. Do you want comments from the public on an agency-developed publication? Try a blog. Are you soliciting government or public involvement to get new ideas about policies, processes, or products? Try a Wiki. See more about social media and engagement.

Can I use these tools inside my firewall/just for my agency/for a private group?

No. This platform is set up for PUBLIC engagement.

Are these tools available to state governments?

Unfortunately, the answer is not right now. The tool is intended for federal use.

Can I upload pictures/videos/audio?

Yes! But it’s your responsibility to make sure that they are 508-compliant. You will need to caption, provide transcript, alt tags, etc. to ensure that the information is accessible for all.

Can more than one person from my agency have access to the storefront or the blog, wiki and forum products?

Yes! They only need to register to get access to the storefront, and your agencies product administrator can grant anyone access to a provisioned product.

Can I use a Vanity URL?

Yes! Your agency’s CIO has to approve the URL that you would like to have. Then, your system administrator will need to create the DNS entry for the URL. Your DNS entry needs to point to the IP address that will be sent to you in the “activation required” email. Note that you will have to click on the link in the “activation required” email in order to finalize the site creation process. If your URL has been approved and created, it takes the same amount of time for your site to be available as getting a regular URL, through APPS.gov NOW.

Who maintains the application?

We take care of the software installs, updates, upgrades, add-ons and hosting and storage. You are responsible for creating and publishing the content, moderating comments, adding users within your agency, using the My Dashboard interface to gather statistics and exporting blog comments into an XML format.

Why are you doing this?

By providing agencies with tools that are free, secure, compliant and hosted, we can help government agencies engage with the public, and make it easier and, hopefully, more desirable for the public to engage with government. You concentrate on carrying-out your mission and engaging with citizens, we do the infrastructure lift. That’s why we say NOW.
